1st Lieutenant Ben Keating, 3rd Squadron XO, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.
1LT Keating was killed November 26, 2006 when the LMTV he was driving rolled off a road, returning the LMTV to FOB Naray from PRT Kamdesh.  1LT Keating was driving the LMTV so that his own soldiers didn’t have to; the road being used was treacherous and had already resulted in two HMMWV rollovers.
PRT Kamdesh was later renamed Combat Outpost Keating, in honor of Ben Keating.
Later, COP Keating would be the epicenter of the Battle of Kamdesh.
